Systems and Machine Learning Research Staff Positions Open

Role: Multiple research staff positions are available in the DREAM:Lab, Department of Computational and Data Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. This is a fast-paced technical position which involves research and development into Big Data platforms, Edge and Cloud computing, and applied Machine Learning. Candidates will have the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art topics on distributed systems and data science, and apply them to projects of national importance such as autonomous vehicles, genomics, COVID-19 management and National Supercomputing Mission. Some of the topic areas include:

  • Federated and distributed deep learning
  • Graph Neural Networks and distributed graph algorithms
  • NoSQL databases for spatio-temporal video data management
  • IoT/Edge analytics and coordination on UAVs/Drones

Successful candidates will work closely with post-graduate students to architect new algorithms and distributed platforms, develop software prototypes, run large-scale systems experiments, and publish research papers at leading venues. Past staff members have gone on to do higher studies abroad at top universities.

Skills: Candidates should have a B.E. or B.Tech. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related subjects within the past 5 years. Those with M.S. or Ph.D. degrees are also invited to apply. 1-2 years of industry experience is strongly encouraged. Candidates should have strong programming skills in Java/C++/C# and Python, with experience in working with large code-bases. Participation in competitive coding is a plus. Those with working knowledge of Big Data/NoSQL platforms like Spark and Cassandra, Cloud/Container/DevOps platforms, HPC/Parallel computing primitives like MPI, and/or machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow/PyTorch are preferred.

Designation and pay will be as per Government of India DST norms, and based on academic qualifications and experience. Work-from-home option is available as per the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
